Issue

Our clients wanted to use data to make better decisions – improving margin, availability (revenue), logistics costs, and labour in-store.

They also needed to improve on shelf availability, reduce supply chain cost to serve and reduce ‘wasted’ inventory working capital.

Response

KPMG spent over four years optimising our client’s supply chain, buying processes, and store ops functions by:

  • Creating in-store mobile apps to help stores manage stock easily (gap, location mgmt., stocktake
  • Optimising route to store (which product goes direct to store, via DC, or hybrid models)
  • On shelf availability optimization – calculating root causes for gaps, and addressing them each day
  • Range, assortment and open to buy planning – supported by an integrated planning process (IBP).
  • Implementing Robotic Process Automation within core business functions to realise operational efficiencies.

Benefit

Significant EBIT improvement (OSA, cost to serve, E-Commerce margin uplift, reduction in in-store labour spend).
