An
Emergency
Services
Provider

Increasing
the
impact
of
Road
Policing

Issue

Other countries of a similar size and population to New Zealand do not have the

same rates of road deaths and serious injuries that we suffer. Road to Zero is a national initiative to do something about this and to make our roads safe.

This provider plays a key role both in the policing of our roads and in providing a deterrent to poor driving behaviours.

This Emergency Services Provider wanted better insights into how it could deploy its people and assets to make a bigger impact on road safety.

Response

KPMG worked with this provider, using internal and publicly available data sources to develop views of both deployment of assets and the incidents that are happening on our roads. KPMG built a series of operational digital dashboards with interactive mapping, using PowerBI and Azure resources, that could be filtered on different types of incident and different time periods, so road policing deployment experts could gain better insights into how, where and when to make impactful interventions.

Benefit

This provider has now rolled out the Road Policing dashboards into operations such that they are being used to both make decisions on asset deployment and to assess the effectiveness of deployment decisions. The impact of this insight will be to increase the effectiveness of road policing and to materially contribute to the Road to Zero.
